Santana delivers again
I saw Santana at Jiffy Lube in VA a couple of years ago and was particularly impressed - especially by his wife's (Cindy Blackman) drum solo. His improvisation was what made the whole show, and once again the drums stood out as my favorite element, especially during the extended performance of Jingo, accompanied by videos of African dancers to set the mood. Carlos did not perform with his wife this time, but he did bring three excellent drummers and a handful of other very talented musicians. Stewart's vocals remain strong, and he also showcased some up-and-coming talent, however, he struggled to keep up with the energy that The High Kings brought during their opening act. I actually felt sorry for his guitarists and drummer, who were not on the same level as those playing alongside Carlos. While I did appreciate Stay With Me and a few of the slower songs, overall, the concert seemed geared towards die-hard fans who have seen him multiple times and enjoy singing along to his many hit tracks.
